I foolowed the steps to root my Razr and when i try to run apps that require rooting it tells me that my phone is not rooted. Any suggestions?
I just rooted my razr tonight, in order to get it to work, i had to have my phone plugged into my laptop, waited for windows to do its thing where it checks for drivers. When that was complete i installed the motorola drivers the website has you download. and followed the rest of the steps and it worked perfectly.
I rooted my razr and down loaded sq lite like you said changed the values to zero on the permissions bht the hot spot is so slow dial up crushed it i looked threw some forums and i am not the only one to have this issue is there a way to fix it. Any hell would be awsome for now i am runing easy teather and it seems to run fine
((
i only had problems when i got phone calls or texts; but i used it with my ps3 and was able to play online with no lag
I rooted my phone and used sqlite for wifi tether. It works and i can play most of my ps3 games. But cant play cod mw3 for some reason keep getting an error 380 and other codes. Also cant access https sites on my laptop. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated
Hey, thank you for taking the time to do this. The root worked great but I am now trying to unroot with your guidelines and finding problems. I went through all the steps but still have the superuser and bionic bootstrap app on my phone. Not sure what to do next? Please advise!
I have had this same issue. Has there Breen any responses?
Just rooted my droid razr for first time and got to say thanks. First time ever rooting and got the free mobile hotspot
like your video showed.everything works great. What is bionic bootstrap and should i uninstall it and use another? If so what should i use and how do you install it. thanks again!
Now that the 6.11.748 update has killed the root. Will a re-root following the same procedure work with the 6.11.748 update?
Yes. I was able to re-root using the same procedure as before
i have a rooted droid razr.. i think it is anyway. when i try and download apps that call for a rooted phone my phone says its not rooted. but i still have the super user app on my phone. now the new software update has come out and my phone will not update, and i think it has something to do with the fact that it may still be rooted… i used doomlords easy unroot kit and that didnt work.. what can i do?
Do you have ICS or Gingerbread?
Try updating your so binary in the super user app
Rooted my rzr just fine and the hotspots works great i did all of this after verizon pused out there update but since root my phone seems to have a hard time staying conected to 3g and it seemz as if my battery runs down faster
Droird Razr – just did the SW upgrade to 6.11.748.XT912.Verizon.en.US — it killed the root but the mobile hotspot still works (which I enabled by rooting the phone before the latest SW upgrade). I wonder if it makes sense to re-root the phone — doesn’t seem necessary since the mobile hotspot still works.
i need help tried to unroot my razr so i can get ota updates but when i go into command prompt and type cd \adb it tells me system cannot find the path. What do i do
hi, I have Droid Razr XT912 with Android 2.3.6, is there any way to root? I have searched every where and can’t seem to find an answer …
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
did not work on my rzar 2.3.5
can not unroot!!
failed to mount!!!
Please Help!!
I am having same problem unrooting. i get to the step , where on the video you type su and then there is a # at the end. this is not working for me at that step. any help would be greatly appreciated. i have only had phone for 2 days and want to return it for a RAZR MAXX. thanks.
I lost my root permisstions when I did the OTA update to the 6.12.173. Any suggestion to fix it?
BTW rerooting didn’t change anything this time. I have read that rolling back to before the update and using VooDoo root keeper works but I’m not sure how to roll back.
Got a Razr Maxx yesterday. First thing to do was root the phone and install a clean ROM without all the Verizon nonsense. Tried to root after the phone did the OTA update, and rooting fails. Any ideas on how to accomplish rooting? While at it, I noticed that there are really only two ROMs out there. I am looking for one that mostly strips all the bloatware, any suggestions?
i did your root on my razr in Dec do I NEED TO UNROOT TO DO UPDATE FOR 2.3.6 OR is ok not to do the update or what? dont wont to loose root could you get back to me. By the way my razr is 2.3.5 and dont want to loose the free hotspot..
I tried to root on a mac following the instructions explicitly stated on this website. Android version 2.3.5 and system version 6.11.748.xt912.verizon.en.us
The first time i ran it, it did not work. Here is the output:

I tried a second time and it also did not work. Any ideas?
I had this same problem. Superuser could not be copied over and the root was not successful.
I just tried the same thing this morning, with a droid razr maxx 6.12.173.xt912 on android 2.3.6. Is it possible the latest upgrade is doing this?
As a quick followup, it did load up Bionic Bootstrap, which I’m not sure can be used on the razr…
I tried this like a million times. No luck. Very disappointing, as I was hoping to install a ROM that would speed up the phone and increase battery life, as those are the two things that would make this phone perfect.

Please help….. Am I doing something wrong or does the program just not work?????
Is the Razr Maxx the same software of the Razr? That is, Can I use the same root/unroot programs for Razr Maxx that are posted for the Razr?
I accidently bricked my razr
please help. Im pretty sure i made the mistake of downloading the RazrX rom onto my computer and then my computer unzipped the files, and i wasnt paying attention and i dragged the unzipped files into my external memory thinking it was zipped… now my phone wont turn on… ANYTHING I CAN DO??? thinking it was zipped i started to run it in safestrap and that is where i noticed the files were unzipped and so i powered off and now my phones bricked.
Well-made video with clear instructions! And a great rooting script…I THINK!
Thing is, I had already rooted my phone before the 2.3.6 OTA upgade came out using another script I found on XDA. Unthinkingly, when the upate offer arrived on my phone, I accepted the OTA.
RESULT: I now have a functional 2.3.6 RAZR BUT NO ROOT! My phone reboots into Fastboot, and Clockwork Mod and Superuser are there, but NO ROOT. I attemptyed to “re-root’ using this script, but my Command window running the scriptu looks like this:

At the end of the script, my RAZR rebooted into the Clockwork Mod Recovery screen left over form my earlier rooting exploit. BUT NO ROOT! How do I get back to “stock” so I can reroot??? Can I use Clockwork Mod Recovery to get back to boot?
I’m totally stumped. My phone isn’t bricked and works fine, but I WANT ROOT (again)! ;-P
Thanks for any help that ayone can give.

Will all this stuff work on a german RAZR?
So I uninstalled safestrap by long pressing the app and ticking uninstall in the app drawer. I think I did something wrong because when ever i reboot the safestrape splash screen appears but the app is no longer in the app drawer. How do i fix this?
Did twice but not rooted. Help
Hey guys , I installed kang ics, and after that, decided to go back to stock using the razr bootstrapper, but it didn’t work, now I’m stuck on the Motorola logo, any ideas on how should I solve this? Thank you !
in reference to root and the uninstall of bionic recovery/ bootstrapper, is it necessary to do any further deletion of files other than the uninstall in the settings/ applications/ manage apps section? i read elswhere that you would not be able to install safe strap corrcectly because bionic would still have files on the phone.
Verizon Software Download/Update 4/28/2012?
My phone has just prompted me for a software download. I selected for it to download later…
If I download it, will it affect my root? Do I need to do anything to maintain my root?
Please advise.
The update will unroot it, but you should be able to reroot it with Motofail.
Just wondering if after rooting and installing Eclipse if anyone else has had friends ask them about weird calls or txt msg that you successively sent? I have had several new facebook friends add me, that i have no idea who they are and several friends ask me what i meant by calls or txt msg i have sent.
Hi guys,
I need some help. I thought I had properly rooted my razr and had it work a while ago. Anyhow when I went to go to use superuser for tethering it did not work. I wanted to unroot my phone and was following the directions but then i got this:

I have the same issue. Has anyone helped you yet???
Just rooted razr everything works great except now 4g lte does not work. It will only connect to 3g. I am in a 4g coverage area as i always had fast full signal prior to root. Any ideas?
I am new to all of this and wondering how you felt about Rom Toolbox?
Will the rooting process work with Andriod version 2.3.6, System version 6.12.181.XT912.verizon.en.us. Everything I am seeing only talks about the System version 6.12.173. Also, If I root my maxx and ICS is released will that remove the root or not install at all. Thanks for the help.
It should work, sorry I can’t test it right now as my Razr is in boot failure mode. But should work fine. There’s Root keeper app, install that before you update to keep root.
Thanks for the fast response. I have rooted my Maxx with no trouble. I also downloaded and installed the SQLiteEditor and followed the video for the mobile hotspot. It works great. Much faster than I expected. I have also downloaded the Root Keeper app you suggested. Again thanks for all your help and keep up the good work.
I’m running Andriod version 2.3.6, System version 6.12.181.XT912.verizon.en.us on my RAZR MAXX and it would not root. I followed the inctructions to the tee. Any thoughts.
Hmmm sorry, my phone is bricked right now, will update root method as soon as I get it unbricked.
No problem. I’ll check back later.
I got it to work by the way. For what ever reason it didn’t like XP or Vista but when I did it on WIN 7 it worked fine.
Followed your instructions to the letter on my droid razr, got to the point of installing zip file from sdcard, installed failed, phone shut down and now I can’t evern power it back up. Please help!!
which instructions? I can help you better if you tell me what you were doing exactly.
Got the maxx .173, ran with the instruction provided and got root in no time. Promptly installed eclipse ROM and now I’m flying yay.
One question, is there any benefit in updating to .181 if you are going with custom rom anyhow?
Not much actually better to stay on custom ROM.
Hey man thank you for all the help. I have done everything and hotspot was working for free at first, but now not it nor wifi tether is working. It connects but no internet. I have updated to 6.12.181. Is that the problem? If not, what could it be? Also, is there any way to go back to 6.12.173?
What I found is that some device will connect to hotspot but not wireless tether and vice versa. Also some will not connect if you have password.
It works amazing even after upgrade on Verizon DriodRazer 6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US V:2.3.6.
Thanks
Ben.

I am moving to china for about a year, but was thinking about upgrading and getting the razr before I went. Any idea if I could get the razr to work in china if I rooted it and got a china mobile microSIM?
yes for GSM Razr.
So, I’m assuming since I’m in the US and my carrier is Verizon that if I got the Razr from them it would be CDMA not GSM
Not sure, I heard Moto was going to make Razr support GSM but…
hay
i tried to install new rom with safestrap recovery , it finished install from sd card , i rebooted the device , there was motorola rel logo and it wont boot up , it got stuck ,
how can i meke it boot with the new rom?

Hey this would help me alot if you can answer this for me..i have been trying to overclock my razr but it doesnt go past 1200mhz..im using set cpu and the max it would go is 1.2ghz..How do i overclock using setCPU? i heard something about flashing a kernel but i have no idea in that subject. I am just attemtping to overclock around 1.4-1.5. your help will be much appreciated, thanks
Yes you need to install a kernel with OC support, not sure if there’s one yet.
Hello,
I have just received a message saying that my OS will be upgraded in my Motorola Droid RAZR 16gb, by Verizon Wireless just a little while ago. I’m currently running 2.3.6, and it will be upgraded to ICS v4.0 soon.
My phone is rooted, and I also have SafeStrap installed on it as well so that I can update roms if I choose to do so. I also have the “Root Restore” app installed also.
Will the new Verizon Wireless Droid Software Update wipe out both Root and SafeStrap? I’m pretty sure I can survive the “root” issues by using Voodoo OTA RootKeeper.
I’ve make a full backup of my ROM and Apps and stored it on my data card in anticipation of the 4.0 ICS Upgrade. I’ve also backed up my phone using Titanium Backup.
Is there anything else that I may have missed, or that I should anticipate during this upgrade to ICS?
Thanks,
Rick.
im having trouble rooting my razr on my mac. ill give you as much info as i can.

Kernel Ver 3.0.8-g71323c3
Build No 6.7.2-180_spu-19-TA-5
It was announced that ICS is beginning to be released today for the RAZR for Verizon. Your rooting method IS AWESOME!! But do I now need to unroot to get the OTA for ICS? Or do you suggest something/anything else?
Thank you!!
BJZWRLD, you present a very good question… can we please get some advice on this today???
Has anybody figured anything out yet for this update? I tried to do it after rooting mine Razr and it keeps saying its failing. Do I need to do it manually or is there a way I can make it work through my phone normally. Thanks.
With the OTA ICS (Android 4.0.4) that just came out over the weekend (6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US), do you have an update for rooting the Razr?
Need to know if it’s safe to proceed with the 6.16.211.en.us OTA update… The time is now for the info on this, since many devices are being prompted for this OTA update as we speak. Please advise.
I rooted my phone (droid razr) last month, before ICS. Now ICS is available and the program will not install. What to do???
Thanks,
Dcn. Mike
You will need to find the complete OTA file and manually update your device.
Ok I’ve done this on two phone on Eclipse ROM and both worked.
1. Use TB or whatever backup programs you want to backup all your users apps + data
2. Go into Safestrap Menu during boot and disable safe system
3. Boot phone normally, then go and update to OTA 181
4. Follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739853&highlight=manual
I installed Black Widow ICS Rom and so far its working fine, if you want to use wireless tether then use the app called FoxFI, that is the only one that I know worked right now for ICS without tweaking.
I posted instructions on how to back on Jul 11 and its still awaiting moderation.
Sorry I have been working as fast as I can, just moderated it!
No prob bro, great site. Was anxious on my part since so many people asking questions.

Hi,
i have rooted my razr with eclipse rom on 6.12.173
now u want to go to 6.12.181 ota, tried using root keepres but of no use.
the system updates thing keeps closing. please help
Thanks
If you are on eclipse rom, you can’t do ota on that rom, go back to stock then update there…unless you removed some apps from stock then you will need to use Matt’s 1.6 tool for that.
ok so i used safestrap to install eclipse on my droid razr maxx. i want to go back to stock gb so i can upgrade to ics now that it is realeased. i do not have the orginial gb file (zip) so how would i go about going back to stay? to add onto the matter i have a mac so much of the fastboot dont apply to me. please help.

disabling safestrap should still allow you to go back to original gb without the need to restore. For some reason after updating to 181, you can’t update to 211 from there so you need Matt’s 1.7 to do it. As for Mac, maybe run a window emulator of some sort caused i don’t know if that utility can be run on a mac
Is there going to be a new way to root for ICS or will this work for ICS too?
yes there will be a new method!
My GF was using my razr maxx while the OTA 6.16.211 update came up on my phone, and she clicked install now…… problem is that she updated my phone while it was ROOTED!!! Didn’t use rootkeeper, voodoo or anything!! Now I no longer have root. Has anyone else had this problem or am I screwed??? HELLPPP

I really appreciate all the help that I am getting for you but I might have gotten in a little over my head. I backed up everything like you said to my extrenal SD and I can not get back to my stock ROM ICS. Safestrap was installed, backup was made, but when I disable safestrap mode to reinstall my stock room from the restore option. Nothing is there. However, when I load a custom ROM, such as eclipse, I can find my files and see them on my laptop as well too.
When u disabling safemode ur stock rom will be restored theres no need to restore backup after.
PLEASE HELP!
I rooted my phone back when I had 6.12.173. When the update came in for 6.12.181 I updated while I was still rooted. I still have SU in my apps but everytime I try to open anything I get the “…is denied superuser permission”. I tried to root again but this is what I get

Greetings from Colorado! I’m bored to tears at work so I decided to browse your website on my iphone during lunch break. I love the information you provide here and can’t wait to
take a look when I get home. I’m amazed at how quick your blog loaded on my cell phone .. I’m not even using
WIFI, just 3G .. Anyways, very good site!
Was trying to unroot back to Andriod version 2.3.6 something didn’t work now it boots up to a blank screen. Tried to do a wipe/reset and that doesn’t work either.
I got Eclipse going again. I will try to re install the stock ROM tomorrow.
I got everything working. Fully updated on ICS.
i am a developer and have installed my test app to the droid razr using wondershare mobilego for android. problem is the app can’t read or write using sqlite. is there a workaround or is rooting required? thanks and regards.
Yes SQLite app requires root.
What are the advantages of rooting the Droid Razr? Does it extend battery life? I am completely green to all this.

I just successfully completed my first ever root on my Razr Maxx. I was just wondering what apps I should download. I would love to enhance the performance and battery life, as well as get rid of bloatware. Any recommendations?
hello. I just got my first smart phone a droid razr m ver.4.1.1 build 9.8.1Q_27-2 and just found out about rooting today, so i was considering rooting it but i don’t know how bad the risk of failure is. currently my plans involve programs like ad block. rooting does not look to difficult but is there any advice such as what to do if it fails
I have rooted a razr before using this process but this time i follow all the steps but when i double click the bat file, windows command prompt wont run. Any suggestions
eclipse v1.4 has a big issue with wifi on my droid razr, i have to stay within 10 feet of my router for it to work, otherwise it disconnects if I go further away, and if I try from further than 10, maybe 15 feet away from the router, in the sames room, no connection to wifi wharsoever, it just keeps on trying to connect, even though my phone knows/recognizes my routers password, it keeps on connecting and just drains the battery life of my phone, today though for some reason, it cant connect even if I put the phone on top of the router. I also need to have wifi on, because verizon’s network is horrible in my apartment, usually up to 3 lines max of 1x service, or 3 lines of 4g, but only if I leave it against the window, which is completely inconvenient. Anyone else have this issue with this rom? My phone is rooted and super user works like a charm, everything else about this rom just works several times better than stock. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!
I went back to the normal ROM on my droid razr to update to the latest software on the phone keeps failing on me. Did a soft reset then a Hard reset. Still wont update to jellybean. (i believe thats what it updates to… been put of the loop) I had eclipse on my phone and went back to the stock rom to update. The Eclipse rom was working great but now youtube wont work and texting acts up now and again. But now i cant seem to update… I still have safe strap apparently, could that be effecting my ability to update? and how can i get rid of it if so? Verizon seems to be stumped. Thank you!! Matthew
First I’d like to say awesome work! I have had no problems following your steps and using your programs to root my Droid Razr. Originally I just rooted my razr to take advantage of the free wifi tether feature. But now as motorola has been making changes to the interface that I don’t like, I’m now looking to explore roms and the full capabilities of my rooted phone deeper. One question I have, before I go on a wild goose chase, is it possible for the signal strength to be boosted through any feature of the rooted phone? Or is that purely an issue between my phone and the carrier? As it stands, my phone will hop from good signal, to bad signal, and cycle through 3G, 4G, and 1X internet connections. I’m still new to all this but it seems to me there’s a bit of a confusion with the algorithm when switching towers.
Hi
My Razor (verison) is rooted and has Gely Bean last update. Two days ago, anytime I restart the phone Stock Text is desinstalled. I go to Titanium and reinstall it. After started again same trouble.I noticed to, that I do not have voice text messaging capability. In case of no fix what is the best text messaging app.
Thank you and my congratulations awsome job you do.
Regards
how do i get my droid to answer questionas? I stopped
I’m not sure if this has already been addressed so here it goes.
I had my RAZR rooted on ICS when the new update came out I updated before removing root. Now I have no root privileges and can’t fast boot back. Can you walk me through getting back to ICS or getting rid of root another way? Thank you for all the help!!!!
Very good info. Lucky me I recently found your blog
